SAT MATH – Linear Equations – Single Variable

The SAT MATH test consists of questions on Linear equations .

These Linear equations problems in SAT MATH are of two types based on the number of variables they have.

If the SAT MATH Linear equation deals with a single variable , then it is a single variable linear equation. If it consists of two variables it is called the two-variable linear equation.

Here a typical question is taken for explaining the process of solving the linear equation in single variable. The image of it is shown as below. The problem may look tough at first glance but once we understand the concepts it can be resolved into parts and can be solved very easily.

The variable which changes irrespective of change in the other parameters in the equation is called the independent variable and the variable whose changes depend upon the values of another variable is called the dependent variable.

The single variable linear equations problems are mostly of independent variable type as there is no other variable available in the equation.

In problems involving the two variables, there will be both dependent and independent variables.

In the above video a problem is solved which involves the single variable x.

The equation can be reused to the form ax=b.

Here we have to find the value of x by solving the given equation. Here the main concept is to reduce the given problem to the form ax=b and then the value of x is given by x=b/a.

Here we have to find the values of an and b so that the value of x as b/a can be found out. This can be solved by using the graphing calculators also.

But here the problem is not that simple that it can be properly input into the system of graphing calculators to solve. Hence it requires a process of simplification to avoid any systemic errors in solving this equation.
